Why this trip

Pune to Mumbai, both ways, one booking

The most-driven route from Pune — for flights, meetings, hospital visits and family days out. A private car with a driver who knows the Expressway and Mumbai's traffic patterns.

Most Pune to Mumbai trips fall into one of three buckets: catching a flight, attending something in the city, or taking family to a hospital or a wedding. All three go badly when the ride is uncertain.

We do this route more than any other. Early-morning airport runs are planned backwards from your check-in time, and for a day in the city the car waits with you so you are not booking a fresh ride at every stop.

The drive

How the Mumbai route runs

~150 km, about 3–3.5 hours — Mumbai–Pune Expressway. Here is how the journey breaks up.

1

Pune to Lonavala

Steady climb out of the city and onto the Expressway. Traffic is usually light before 7 a.m.

2

Lonavala to Khopoli

The Ghat section — the most scenic part, and the one where the driver's experience matters most in the rain.

3

Khopoli to Panvel

Fast, flat and open. This is where time is made up if you started late.

4

Panvel into Mumbai

Depending on where you are headed — the airport, South Mumbai or the western suburbs — we pick the entry that avoids the worst traffic at that hour.

What to see

Worth stopping for in Mumbai

With the car staying with you, these fit into one trip instead of several.

Airport transfers

Both T1 and T2 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, at any hour.

South Mumbai

Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Colaba Causeway and the museums.

Temples

Siddhivinayak, Mahalaxmi and Mumbadevi — a common one-day darshan circuit.

Business districts

BKC, Lower Parel and Andheri for meetings and conferences.

Family visits

Hospital appointments, weddings and relatives' homes across the suburbs.

Best time to go

When to make this trip

This route runs all year. During heavy monsoon the Ghat section slows down, so we start earlier for flights. Weekday mornings and Sunday evenings are the two peak windows in the Pune-bound direction.

Choosing a car

Which car suits Mumbai

For airport runs with two or three passengers and check-in bags, the Dzire's boot is the practical choice. Six travelling for a wedding or a family function fit comfortably in the Ertiga.

Practical tips

  • For a flight, tell us the departure time rather than the pickup time — we work the schedule backwards.
  • For a full day in the city, a round trip with the car waiting usually costs less than several separate rides.
  • Book the night before for pickups earlier than 6 a.m.

What the fare depends on

The route, the number of days, the car you pick and how much local running you do at the other end. We agree one clear figure before the trip — no meter, no hidden charges at drop-off.
