Akkalkot draws devotees from across Maharashtra to the Vatavruksha Swami Maharaj Math. It is a long drive from Pune, which is exactly why doing it by private car makes such a difference — you travel through the night or start very early, and the family sleeps on the way.
Most people we drive do not stop at Akkalkot alone. Tuljapur, Pandharpur and Solapur are all on or near this route, and a round-trip car turns four separate pilgrimages into one planned circuit.

NH-65 heads southeast out of Pune through Bhigwan — worth a stop in winter for the flamingos.
Long, open highway. This is the bulk of the drive.
About 40 km further on, an easy last stretch.
Tuljapur and Pandharpur can be added on the way out or the way back, depending on your darshan timings.

Open all year. Winter, from November to February, is by far the most comfortable for a drive this long. Summer on this stretch of Maharashtra gets genuinely hot, so early starts matter. Ashadhi Ekadashi brings huge crowds if you are including Pandharpur.
