Satara is close enough that people forget how much is there. Kaas Plateau alone, when the flowers are out in late monsoon, is one of the most extraordinary sights in Maharashtra — and it is a shorter drive than Mahabaleshwar.
Because everything worth seeing sits outside the town — Kaas, Thoseghar, Sajjangad, Koyna — a car that stays with you is the difference between seeing one thing and seeing all of them.

For Kaas, the flowering window is roughly late August to September, and entry is limited — book online in advance. Thoseghar is at its most powerful from July to October. The rest of the year Satara is a pleasant, uncrowded day out.
Choosing a carTwo hours each way makes almost any car comfortable. An Altroz or Dzire is economical for a small group; the Ertiga suits a family doing the full Kaas–Thoseghar–Sajjangad loop.
